The last square of the Challenge: an unusual motif with long chain-loops in the center.

This must be the smallest of all squares. It's a pretty one with those popcorn stitches!

Beyond the Square: Motif # 103

Motif # 103

Category: Squares

Progress: 134 of 144

Notes:
Ten more motifs to go, and today's time for another square. The corners are made with dc-3-togs, and the motif is similar to # 100 that I've posted last week - only this time it's a diagonal cross.

Notes:
A square with a cross. In the book, the motif is one-colored red, but I've worked the first round with white. This way it looks like a square with a cross with a flower :)

Beyond the Square: Motif # 91

Motif # 91

Category: Squares

Progress: 124 of 144

Notes:
This one is similar to Motif # 90 that I've posted a while ago, only that the sc's are worked in BLO (back loops only). And again I had the same problem: it's supposed to look like like a spiral (because you don't join rounds), but it instead it looks kind of untidy.

Notes:
This one was interesting to make. You have to work trebles and ch-4's to create this diagonal checkerboard pattern. Nice to know, could come in handy one day!

A simple and beautiful square with lots of dc-3-togs and a border of sc's. I kinda like the rounded corners. Oh, and the colors. :)

A simple square, made with trebles and chain-spaces. I admit it: if it hadn't been for the 144, I probably never would have made it.

Progress: 109 of 144

Notes:
I remember that I had already made this one very early in this Challenge, because I liked the shape of this motif. However, I didn't like the colors of my first try at all, that's why I haven't posted it. Now I've made another one using different colors, and it turned out quite pretty - so time to share it here! :)

This beautiful square is made with lots of front-post dc's. With the yellow and white it looks bright and cheerful, don't you think?

Beyond the Square: Motif # 120

Motif # 120

Category: Squares

Progress: 100 of 100+

Notes:
It was hard to pick a motif for this special occasion - my 100th motif! I've chosen this one, because it's truely unique! You have to make ten separate strips and arrange them in a way that they form a basket weave pattern. Then you work two rounds of sc's for the edging to keep the strips in place. It looks amazing, but it was quite an effort to make it (imagine all the loose ends you have to weave in for this little square!) - I'll probably never try this one again :)

And now - it's time to celebrate!!! :)

Motif # 112

Progress: 96 of 100+

Notes:
This is a basic granny square pattern with an interesting way of combining two different colors. You have to turn the motif after each round, working back and forth, to achieve this effect. I'm glad that I've learned this basic how-to, and I think you could design amazing blankets, playing with the arrangement of the squares!

90% of the Challenge accomplished, that means only 10 more motifs to go! This here's a simple dc-ch2 square with a nice picot-edging.

Beyond the Square: Motif # 97

Motif # 97

Category: Squares

Progress: 85 of 100+

Notes:
So, here's what you can do with Motif # 96 (the mesh), that I've posted a few days ago. The center reminds me a little bit of wiggly crochet, although the stitches are not so dense. I'm not sure if those dc's - which are worked onto the mesh later - are supposed to stand up, but on the picture in the book they do. However, I like it better when the stitches lie flat, like you see it in my version of the motif.

Notes:
This is a basic mesh square, not a "motif" per se - however, I think it would look lovely in an afghan together with more elaborate squares. This way the blanket wouldn't look too overwhelming. This motif is also the foundation for the next motif, # 97, that you'll find here soon.

Notes:
In the beginning, I had no intention whatsoever to make this square, I think I never looked at it twice - then, in March, I've seen Linda's pretty version of that square on her blog and I immediately fell in love with it. It's so amazing how the use of different colors can change the look of a motif completely!

Notes:
Lots and lots of dc3togs. They always remind me of little leaves, so I've made this round green. I like this color combination and I think I've used it before and will definitely use it in the future! By the way: 70% of the Challenge is accomplished now, we're getting there... :)
