Beyond the Square: Motif # 135

Motif # 135

Category: Unusual Shapes

Progress: 143 of 144

Notes:
Not exactly a Christmas star, it rather looks like another star-fish and reminds me a little of motif # 144 that I've posted very early in this Challenge. Anyway, this is the last unusual shape I've got for you. And now there's only one more motif left, but I'll keep you waiting until after Christmas - can you guess which one is missing?

Notes:
Another "stretched" hexagon, very quick and easy to make with the good ole dc's. I can't believe I'm almost through with the Challenge and can't wait to reach the finish line!

Motif # 126

Progress: 133 of 144

Notes:
Here's another one of the unusual shapes that I had neglected a little lately. What kind of shape is that anyway? I've blocked it in a way, that it almost looks like a circle or an oval. In the book, the corners are more clearly visible, so that it's rather a stretched octagon.

Motif # 133

Category: Unusual Shapes

Progress: 128 of 144

Notes:
This is one of the diamond-shaped motifs in the "Unusual Shapes" chapter of the book. It was quick and easy to make, and I think it could look awesome when lots of these motifs are joined to a blanket, shouldn't be more difficult than joining squares. I've never seen a blanket like this, can anybody please make one? ;)
So, this was the last motif for November, that means I've got only one more month left to complete the ultimative Challenge - 16 motifs to go, yee-haw! :)

Motif # 142

Category: Unusual Shapes

Progress: 104 of 144

Notes:
Here I've learned a new and interesting way to start a rectangle. You can change the length of the first row according to the desired format of your rectangle - this way you could make a nice table-runner for instance. I'd hit the "like"-button on this one :)

Almost a square, but in fact it's a rectangle. The colors might be a little tooooo soft and light this time.

Motif # 130

Category: Unusual Shapes

Progress: 87 of 100+

Notes:
That was one of the most interesting motifs so far: this oval isn't worked in rounds, but in rows. Sometimes it goes around the corner, sometimes you work a few chain loops, and sometimes you connect them. In the end, you meet your starting row again and sew both ends together. I loved making this one!!

Notes:
One of the rare pentagons in the book. I'm so not used to this shape, that I accidently saved the pictures of this motif in my "hexagons"-folder on my PC, and later wondered where those pictures were. Happens when you can't count to six :)

Beyond the Square: Motif # 141

Motif # 141

Category: Unusual Shapes

Progress: 54 of 100+

Notes:
This is a diamond-shaped motif, again with thin rounds of *sc, ch1*. Lots of motifs in this book are made with these stitch combinations, and every time I've mentioned that I LOVE the effect :) My motif looks again quite different from the one in the book: In the book, the motif is two-colored, the dc-rounds are green, the sc,ch1-rounds are orange. I've used pink and green for the dc-rounds and white for the sc-rounds. I've also added a last round of sc's in white, and I think it's the first time that I've made a small change to the original pattern. I like it!

Motif #140

Category: Unusual Shapes

Progress: 51 of 100+

Notes:
This is another motif from the "unusual shapes" section in the book, and it's probably the most unusual motif of them all, because it's the only 3-dimensional one. It was very easy to make, but honestly: I have no idea what to make with a motif like this :)

Notes:
An unusual shape, so I've decided to use an unusual color combo for it. This here's a rectangle with some popcorn-stitches. Although I like popcorn stitches in general, I don't like to squeeze dc's between them (which has to be done here).

Notes:
I wouldn't exactly describe this one as a "motif". However, it's a nice basic for making the perfect oval shape. Could be helpful some day! Maybe this one (a little bigger and with the right colors) would make a nice placemat?

Beyond the Square: Motif #122

Motif #122

Category: Unusual Shapes

Progress: 40 of 100+

Notes:
This is the first motif of the last chapter, the "Unusual Shapes", it's a pentagon. The only thing that's bothering me a little with this picture is the black background. In the beginning I've picked the black background for all my motifs, because I've discovered that the colors look better on black. So far, I've taken all the pictures with artificial light in our apartment. For the next series I think I'll try it with a white background and natural light - but that's still the sound of the future, there are still lots of motifs in the current series :) (edit: a few weeks later I've taken new pictures of all the motifs on a white background and replaced the pictures)

Beyond the Square: Motif #132

Motif #132

Category: Unusual Shapes

Progress: 37 of 100+

Notes:
I think this is the first pentagon I've ever made. I wonder how you would join these if you want to make a blanket... The center of the motif and the five "petals" are worked seperately and joined as you go. It's not difficult and turns out pretty, have a try! :)
By the way: I had some questions about yesterday's motif, if it's difficult - I think most of the motifs in the book are very easy to make, and even if they're more complicated: the instructions are always very clearly written with detailed explanations to unusual stitches or stitch combinations. So even if a motif looks a little bit difficult: just grab a hook and try it, what have you got to lose? :)

Notes:
Another heart shaped motif. Again, this motif is one-colored (yellow) in the book, but I thought it would look nice with more colors, so I used white and two shades of blue.

Here's one of the heart-shaped motifs in the book. The original version is one-colored, but I wanted to highlight the center of the heart - love it!!
